Food.Fun.Stuff: Julie & Julia
In just under four days, two monumental events will happen in JKGF life. (1.) A birthday on August 7 and (2.) Julie & Julia. It behooves us to reflect on these two important events occurring on the same day this week. We are excited to see the Julie & Julia movie because for a foodie, this is a big thing. Julia Child is the beginning of what would become the Rachel Ray's, Michael Chiarello's and Paula Deen's. Not paying homage to Julia Child as a foodie is like an NBA player not paying homage to the works of Michael Jordan. We remember as children, wwaayy before we even thought about writing about food, watching Julia Child on PBS and thinking that would be pretty cool to cook and taste food for a living. To this day, we still aspire to attain the success of Julia Child while maintaining a constant appreciation for genuinely, good food.
Based on the clips and trailers we've seen, we've concluded that the "Julie" character is going to be writing a blog. How ironic is this to our lives??! We didn't take the approach of cooking all of Julia Child's recipes in a year, but we have certainly allowed food to be our therapy, enjoyment and number one hobby. It has helped us to maintain a healthy balance in our lives by providing not just good meals, but a way to vent out frustrations and share our happiness with others. Food doesn't have to be a mechanism for weight gain or a means of coping with depression, it has gotten a bad wrap for this stuff. It's the process of cooking and really enjoying the food you bring into your body that makes food sooo good.
With a birthday looming (*We'll leave out the details of how old...) and a movie that we've been anticipating all year (*all our lives for that matter...) that ironically premieres on our B-Day, we are elated with joy and can't wait to celebrate! If you haven't seen the clips for Julie & Julia, check it here.
