Sloppy, Sloppy Joe

Sloppy, Sloppy Joe

1-1/2 lbs. lean ground turkey
1 onion (chopped)
1 red bell pepper (chopped)
1- 6 oz. can tomato paste
1 cup water
¼ cup heinz ketchup
3 cloves garlic (minced)
1/2 tbsp. chili powder
1 tsp. paprika
1 tsp. of dried mustard
1 tsp. distilled white vinegar
3 tbsp. brown sugar
1 tsp. dried oregano
salt (to taste)
pepper (to taste)
8 potato hamburger buns

Preheat oven to Warm (*or lowest setting depending on the type of oven you have). In a pan over medium heat, sauté the ground turkey for 5-7 minutes. Add in the onion, red bell pepper, green pepper, and 2 cloves of minced garlic; sauté for 5 more minutes, or until onions are tender. Drain the fat. Stir in tomato paste and water, stirring until paste is dissolved. Stir in ketchup, garlic, chili powder, paprika, vinegar, oregano, dried mustard, salt and pepper. Add in the brown sugar 10 minutes before serving (*you don't want it to burn). Stir and keep warm. In the oven toast the buns for 5-7 minutes. Serve the turkey mixture over the toasted buns. Enjoy!

*Johnna's tip: Sloppy Joe's are a JKGF favorite! They are quick, easy and taste delicious. The quicker, quicker way of course is to pull out a can of Manwich and mix it with some lean ground turkey or lean ground beef (*Notice that JKGF is using "lean"...it's healthier, try it.). But why do that when you can have your own fun with it?! Also, this is such a kid friendly dish, your kids will even enjoy making this one with you. So turn it into a family affair and make it a Sloppy Joe night!
