Food.Fun.Stuff: Spook Fest

On and around the District:

>With October comes not only fall, but Halloween. Fright Fest is in full effect and 2941 Restaurant is sharing in the festivities (*Who would've thought?!). Pastry chef, Anthony Chavez, has created an "Eye Scream" dessert with white chocolate, pistachio mousse and raspberry-lychee coulis and is presented on a bed of dry ice to resemble a pair of smoking eyeballs (*Eww...). For $15 a pop, patrons can get a taste of the dessert from now until the 31st. during dinner hours.

>Trick or treat. Cupcakes or cocktails. The Neighborhood Restaurant Group is spooking things up with various Halloween themed events at its restaurants. To start with Buzz has created some seasonal cupcakes (*Pumpkin cupcakes with candied pepitas and caramel apple cupcakes...) On October 29, 2009, bring the kids out from 3 pm-6 pm where costumed kids can decorate sugar cookies, play games and win prizes while parents get some comp. steamed apple cider (*Yum). Over @ EatBar, we already told you about their new movie screenings, but in celebration of Halloween, they are showing...The Rocky Horror Picture Show!! (*"Little shop, little shop of horrors!") Dress to scare and you could win a prize.

EatBar will be serving up some tasty treats such as Deviled eggs, blood sausage and Tongue tacos (*Eww again...). Tallula will be serving up seasonal dishes such as Pumpkin soup with toasted pumpkin seeds (*Pumpkin seeds are soo good toasted). Rustico is asking patrons to dress up as their favorite wrestler for its OctoberSlam on October 31, 2009 from 4 pm-7 pm. And if you were looking for something more mild mannered, Vermillion is hosting an Alice in Wonderland-themed Halloween party on October 31, 2009 @ 10 pm.

>Food Fight! The Capital Food Fight is back this year with current Top Chef: Las Vegas contestants Mike Isabella (*Zaytinya) and Bryan Voltaggio (*Volt), among others, running the show. Anthony Bourdain (*We love him) will co-host the event alongside Jose Andres. The chefs will go head-to-head in 10-minute, live on-stage food battles. Of course, we love a good cause and this event will assist the DC Central Kitchen in its 20th year of combating hunger and creating opportunity in the community. Patrons will not only have the opportunity to see celebrity chefs go to battle, but they will be able to taste a little from over 60 of the DMV's most popular restaurants (*Art and Soul, 1789 Restaurant, Blue Duck Tavern** just to name a few...).

The When: Wednesday, November 11, 2009, 6 pm-9 pm
The Where: Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20004
The Money: $150 before October 9, 2009 and $175 after. Get your tickets here.

*Is that enough stuff for you to do?? Well if not, now is the time to start thinking of what you want to be for Halloween...hmm, we're thinking along the super hero line...Wonder Woman perhaps?? or maybe Cat Woman??
**Wonder what the wait list is @ Blue Duck Tavern since the President and First Lady graced it with their presence for their anniversary this past weekend??...
