Chocolate, Chocolate Cake

Chocolate, Chocolate Cake

1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
5 eggs
2 cups cake flour
1 cup buttermilk
2 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. soda in 1 tsp. of boiling water

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream together the butter, sugar, cocoa and egg yokes. Add in the flour, buttermilk and vanilla. Add in the soda and hot water to the batter. Fold in the egg whites. (*Makes four layers) Pour ingredients into baking dish and bake in the oven for 35-45 minutes or until you can stick a fork in the cake and nothing comes out on the fork. Let cool and add icing (*Chocolate frosting recipe found on JKGF). Serve!

*Johnna's tip: Experiment with your decorating skills by adding trimming or icing gel to the cake for decoration (*found at your local grocery store). This is a fun dish to cook up with the kids...no fancy baking skills needed, just good 'ole fashioned fun:-)

I like this recipe; short and sweet. Should be quite moist with the buttermilk.

Thank you! That was what I was aiming for...something short but would fulfill the sweet tooth;-)
