Johnna's Pick of the Week: El Rinconcito Deportivo (D.C.)

Hole in the walls. We all have that one spot that we wouldn't take our first date to, but we would definitely go here when we're in need of some really good food for cheap. That's what JKGF discovered when we stumbled in on a little spot on 11th st., NW called El Rinconcito Deportivo. Now the name of the restaurant is almost irrelevant because you can barely read the sign especially riding along the street via car or bike. It is extremely low key and a spot you would not wander into without a recommendation of some sort...despite the fact that we had no prior recommendation when we entered these doors, we went at our own risk.

The food is Salvadorian and Mexican with a menu ranging from Carne Asada (Grilled Marinated Fajita and Spanish Chorizo) to Chicken Burritos to Camarones al Ajillo (Jumbo Shrimp Sauteed in garlic Mojo sauce). The place is old and not much for the eyes, but the food is delicious! It is cheap and quick and everything is made to order so you can taste the chicken coming straight from the heat. Prices range from $1.50 to $12.00. And there is a random bar in the front corner with lots of liquor on it, so you might want to grab a beer while you're at it...especially at these prices. Our favorites are the Chicken Burrito's and the Cheese pupusa. All in all the food was good, but don't go here expecting anything remotely fancy...just good food at a cheap price;-)

*Another plus: They have Delivery Available after 4:00 p.m....Delivery options make a resident in the District's life that much easier...
